The goal of the Biosecurity Flagship is to support Australia?s social, environmental and economic wellbeing by reducing the incidence of pest and disease incursions and increasing the effectiveness of mitigation and eradication responses. The goal of the Climate Adaptation Flagship is to equip Australia with practical and effective options to adapt more effectively to climate change and variability and in doing so create $3 billion a year in net benefits by 2030. The goal of the Digital Productivity Flagship is, by 2025, to grow productivity in Australia through frontier services innovation and unlock the value of widely available broadband communications to create $4 billion in added value per annum for the Australian economy by developing and delivering more efficient and innovative services that improve citizen wellbeing and prosperity. The goal of the Energy Transformed Flagship is to develop, demonstrate and ensure deployment by 2020 of integrated low carbon pathways for Australia and alternative stationary and transport energy solutions that realise a reduction of Australia?s carbon dioxide equivalent emissions greater than 20 million tonnes per annum by 2030 and greater than 50 million tonnes per annum by 2050. The goal of the Food Futures Flagship is to transform the international competitiveness of the Australian Agrifood sector, adding $3 billion in annual value, by applying frontier technologies to high potential industries. The goal of the Future Manufacturing Flagship is to create $2 billion of additional annual value for Australia?s manufacturing industry by 2025 through the development and application of resource efficient, clean and transformational technologies. The goal of the Minerals Down Under Flagship is to deliver science and technology options for the discovery and efficient development of Australia?s mineral resource endowment that will lead to $1 trillion in-situ value by 2030 and enable flow-on benefits to the wider national economy. The goal of the Preventative Health Flagship is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians and save $2 billion in annual direct health costs by 2020 through the prevention and early detection of chronic diseases. The goal of the Sustainable Agriculture Flagship is to secure Australian agriculture and forest industries by increasing productivity by 50 per cent and reducing carbon emission intensity by at least 50 per cent between 2010 and 2030. Consistent with Australia’s national interest, the goal of the Water for a Healthy Country Flagship is to develop science and technologies that improve the social, economic and environmental outcomes from water, and deliver $3 billion per year in net benefits for Australia by 2030. The goal of the Wealth from Oceans Flagship is to provide Australia with the knowledge and tools to protect coastal and ocean environments, increase their value to society and create a net economic benefit of $3 billion per annum.
Eligible applicants include: Individuals employed part-time or full-time at an Australian or overseas higher education institution; Individuals from other Australian and overseas publicly funded research agencies; and Recently retired individuals may be considered.
Flagship Visiting Fellowships are valued at varying amounts but can be supported up to the value of $100,000 each for approximately six months full-time. (Fellowships can also be taken part-time ? ie. a maximum of $100,000 for up to 12 months part-time.) Discussions with the relevant Flagships should determine how much funding is available and the type of work that is proposed. For Australian based researchers, the Fellowship amount can be used to fund the replacement cost in their home institution during the term of their secondment, as well as economy class air travel within Australia for the Fellow (consistent with CSIRO?s Travel Policy) and some minor operating costs. It is expected that all other costs will be borne by the host Flagship or CSIRO Division. For international visitors, the Fellowship amount can be used to fund a living allowance during their period in Australia working in CSIRO, as well as economy class international air travel and minor operating costs. Any living allowance will be paid according to CSIRO?s Visitors Policy, but may vary depending on the arrangements made with the host Division or Flagship. Individual Funding Agreements for international visitors should be designed so as to facilitate the payment of travel and living expenses at useful points in the Fellowship. Fellows are encouraged to obtain additional financial support from other sources, including their home institution and other funding bodies. Before accepting this additional funding, prospective fellows should inform CSIRO of any obligation imposed on the Fellow by other funding agencies. (des)
