Job opening: Associate Director for international agricultural research program
The Horticulture Innovation Lab, based at UC Davis, is seeking a new associate director. The position is a critical leadership role, overseeing the program’s $3 million annual portfolio of research projects with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development.
About the position: The associate director represents the Horticulture Innovation Lab at domestic and international functions, with frequent travel to developing countries. This position assists with vision and priority setting for the program, monitors grant programs awarded by the program, and manages program information. Qualifications include a graduate degree in a relevant field of study and experience working in agricultural development, writing grant proposals, making presentations on scientific materials, facilitating workshops, and training project managers. About the program: The Horticulture Innovation Lab builds international partnerships for fruit and vegetable research that improves livelihoods of smallholder farmers in developing countries. The program is led by a team at UC Davis and works with professionals around the world on pioneering horticultural research and development as a critical but neglected part of international development. As part of the U.S. government’s Feed the Future initiative, the program is guided by ensuring gender equity, improving information access, targeting innovative technologies, improving nutrition, working across the value chain, and increasing research capacity.
