AgriCorps is a Peace Corps type organization that sends American agriculture volunteers to the developing world to teach agriculture. AgriCorps uses youth to transfer agricultural technology into farming communities. Young people and their families will have access to improved agricultural technology, which allows them to increase their yields and contribute to food security.
Members of the AgriCorps live and work in rural communities in the developing world for 11 months. They are agriculture science teachers and start 4-H programs. They work to help young people develop their critical thinking skills and help them explore agriculture. They act as informal extension agents helping transfer agricultural technology to rural communities. We have strong connections with both the National FFA Organization and the National 4-H Council; both CEOs of those organizations serve on our Board of Directors.
Our first group of corps members has been on the ground in Ghana for six months and we are currently recruiting for the July 2015-June 2016 team. We are looking for volunteers that have: 1) a degree in any agricultural field, 2) past 4-H or FFA experience, and 3) production agriculture experience.
